Prospective Residents and Clinical Fellows

Graduate Medical Education at Westchester Medical Center

Westchester Medical Center is the University Hospital of our academic partner, New York Medical College. Our expansive 600 acre medical center campus is located in Westchester County, New York, a suburb approximately 45 minutes north of New York City. Trainees in our programs enjoy the vibrancy of New York City, and the serenity of the Hudson Valley. Westchester Medical Center is the region's advanced medical care and referral hospital, serving more than 3.5 million people. Each year, more than 120,000 patients receive care at Westchester Medical Center in every clinical specialty through our main hospital, our Maria Fareri Children's Hospital – the only all-specialty children's hospital in the region, and our Behavioral Health Center.

With more than 900 attending physicians and 3,300 healthcare professionals, Westchester Medical Center delivers industry-leading advanced medical care in specialties and services ranging from heart, kidney and liver transplants and advanced endovascular procedures to high-risk obstetrics and gynecology. The Medical Center is also home to the region’s most comprehensive cardiovascular program. We are a regional Level I Trauma and Burn Center with more than 40,000 emergency room visits per year. Earlier this year, the institution acquired St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY, now referred to as Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center, which will afford additional educational opportunities, particularly in primary care.

Our academic medical center provides an excellent setting for our Graduate Medical Education programs, which are administered in partnership with the Faculty of New York Medical College. We have over 40 different residency and fellowship programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the Council on Dental Accreditation (CODA). Our institution is committed to the preparation of our trainees for successful practice in the future thru the development of superb clinical skills combined with the instillation of the values of compassionate, patient-centered care. We have embraced the integration of patient safety and quality improvement into the clinical learning environment, and are expanding our curricula to provide trainees with the requisite knowledge and skills.

The Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) in concert with Residency and Fellowship Program Leadership oversees the post-graduate training of residents and fellows at WMC. GME is an essential part of the academic atmosphere and clinical environment that fosters the development of all levels of trainees.
